Jennifer Lopez And Others Require Flowers When On Tour

Flowers help people relax and feel happier, so it really comes as no surprise that big celebrities like Jennifer Lopez have their presence written right into their contracts. But, while florists are more than happy to do their best to make a celebrity's stay brighter, sometimes the demands get just a little out of hand.

For example, one florist in New Zealand recently had a bit of a bumpy run with providing flowers for legendary singer/songwriter Elton John. Jacque Holbrook was, at first, really excited to be asked to provide the flowers for such a big name celebrity. She diligently followed the instructions she was provided to arrange numerous white peonies, long-stemmed red roses, and a variety of other flowers in John's dressing room.

Holbrook was confident she'd done everything correctly and that the singer would be pleased. But, just a few hours after she'd completed the enormous task, she received orders to change it all. The singer had decided he wanted short-stemmed roses placed individually in square class containers set along the wall in a "hedge" of roses. John no longer wanted the "explosion of color" originally ordered. The new look was monochromatic. And, lastly, all plant leaves needed to be removed.

Holbrook reported that fulfilling John's wishes were even more challenging than another order she'd received for a celebrity client-the Queen of England.

Although Elton John's requests were rather eccentric, not all stars make such outrageous demands on florists. True, some requests are a bit more specific than others. According to contract riders posted on smokinggun.com, Jennifer Lopez requests that her dressing room contain only white flowers to match the required décor-a white room, white tables or tablecloths, white drapes, white candles, and white couches.

On the other hand, Beyonce asks only for some rose scented candles and two fresh flower arrangements. There are no specific requirements for the arrangements, just that they be fresh. Christina Aguilera requires a touch of nature in her dressing room as well, but lists them only as plants and flowers with no details about the kinds and sizes of the plants and arrangements.

Whether the demands of Jennifer Lopez and her fellow celebrities are simple or a bit more complicated, it's clear they value the presence of flowers. Perhaps they recognize the emotional impact flowers have on them, or maybe they just enjoy the beauty nature has to offer.
