Jennifer Lopez Is Most Likely To Buy Flower BouquetsCopyright © 2006-2008 Wesley Berry, AAFStatistics released by the Society of American Florists (SAF) in August of 2006 show that members of Gen-X (those aged 25 to 39), like Jennifer Lopez, are most interested purchasing flowers that have already been bunched or are in a bouquet. SAF frequently provides its members, florists from around the United States, with market research and statistics to help them boost sales and provide their customers with exactly the products they're interested in buying. The statistics concerning the flower buying trends among Gen-Xers showed the following: 1) 51.5 percent of purchases were bunched flowers or bouquets. 2) 24.1 percent were arrangements. 3) 21.4 percent of sales were loose flowers. 4) 2 percent were boxed. 5) 1.1 percent were corsages or boutonnieres. Not only are bouquets and bunches a trend among Gen-Xers, but flowers are near the top of all gift-giving trends. In a nationwide survey conducted by SAF, flowers, along with clothing and jewelry, topped the list of the most popular gifts. And, flowers were ranked the number one "I love you" gift. Why are flowers so popular? Robyn Spizman, author of The Perfect Present, says, " Our favorite gifts are the ones that allow us to express emotion and make us feel special. They are personal expressions of our feelings for each other." That said, it's not surprising to learn that 23 percent of respondents to the survey said that flowers are the gift that makes them feel the most special and 58 percent stated they've bought flowers at least once in the past year. And, if you think flower giving between men and women is a one-way street, think again. One in three women surveyed had given flowers to men. Flowers make a great gift for any occasion-birthdays, holidays, anniversaries-but the number one occasion people like to receive flowers for is no reason at all! A whopping one-third of the respondents indicated they love to receive flowers as a surprise just to show someone was thinking of them. While clothing actually tops the list of gifts most often given with 38 percent, flowers follow in second place with 12 percent. But, statistics also showed that you're probably better off sticking with flowers since clothing is also the most frequently returned gift! Considering how many Americans purchase flowers for their loved ones, it's a pretty safe bet that even people like Jennifer Lopez purchase flowers. And, as a Gen-Xer, we're guessing she buys a whole lot of bouquets and bunches! About The Author:
