What's the catch? You can reward yourself with just a little effort. No matter where you go in Alberta, you're nearby some of the most sought-after fishing spots in the world. Guides offer half-day and full-day adventures. Many will provide you with everything you need, including the gear. If you bring your dream, you'll taste adventure.

Alberta has internationally acclaimed trout rivers such as the Bow and Crowsnest. And there are secret haunts in places such as the North and South Saskatchewan rivers. There are lodges and camps in fresh Northern lakes where during the sun-drenched summer, you can fish until almost midnight. And for day trips, Calgary, Edmonton, Cold Lake and Lac La Biche are stepping stones to water throbbing with fish.

Whether you plan to cast, troll or fly fish, you can choose from a lengthy and varied list of experienced guides and treasured lodgings. You have six regions from which to base your fishing adventures, each holding their own unique promise of The Big One. You can choose from a holiday spent on clear lakes in the sprawling north, fresh streams in the snow-capped mountains and winding rivers in the prairie and park lands.

Alberta North

In the rugged North, you'll find great fishing for Pike, Walleye, Perch, Lake Trout and Arctic Grayling. Most of the lake areas are accessible from the main highways. And there are fly-in lodges for every holiday budget.

Many of the fly-in fishing lodges and camps use Fort McMurray as their travel base. Highlights for adventurers include Mikisew Sportfishing, Island Lake Lodge, Winefred Lake Lodge, Andrew Lake Lodge, and many more. Enthusiasts can also fish the Clearwater River with Points North Adventures and Majic Country Wilderness Tours.

You can experience 'drive-to' fishing at its finest on the largest auto accessible lake in the province, Lesser Slave Lake, which also boasts one of the best Walleye fisheries. And Lesser Slave Lake is home to the Golden Walleye Classic, which is North America's biggest Walleye tournament.

Alberta Central

You'll discover excellent fishing for Pike and Walleye, Perch and Lake Whitefish. Lac La Biche and Cold Lake are popular destinations for Lake Trout, Walleye, Pike and Perch. Gull Lake boasts trophy sized Pike. Sylvan Lake has good Pike and Perch, as well as good beaches. Pigeon Lake has Walleye, Pike and Perch. Other travel destinations include Pine Lake, Buffalo Lake, Buck Lake and the Red Deer River.

Edmonton and Area

Known as Festival City, Edmonton is Alberta's sunny capital and a good launching point for nearby fishing adventures that remain within striking distance of all the cultural activities this city offers. Within an hour, you can fish the North Saskatchewan River for Walleye, Northern Pike, Goldeye, Sauger and Sturgeon. You can gain catches of 60 to 100 Pike and Walleye daily! Get Hooked Fishing Adventures is among the outfitters serving this region, as well as Hatch Chaser Fly Fishing.

Calgary and Area

This is a cosmopolitan city where a river runs through it - named The Bow. This river is rated one of North American's top 10 trout streams. It attracts trout fishermen to travel from around the world, as well as city residents angling for some time on their favored escape. Alberta Bound Fishing Adventures is just one of many outfitters that can help you to fish the Bow River for Rainbow and Brown Trout. Other outfitters include Roberts Fly Fishing Shop and Adventures, Must Be Nice Drift Company and Fishing Pole Guiding Inc.

Alberta South and Foothills Region

Stretching south to the U.S. border, you'll find excellent stream fishing. Rainbow, Brown, Brook, Cut-throat and Bull Trout are all available. Most of the small streams in this area hold trout. Among the popular streams are the North Ram River and Tributaries, which offer world-class Cut-throat trout fishing between June 16 and October 31. Alberta Fly Fishing Adventures are among the outfitters who will guide you to the adventure holiday of a lifetime.
